Week 1: The State of Women in Leadership

Time to dive into our first lesson in The Guide to Authentic Feminine Leadership. Before you take a deep dive into your own goals, strengths and opportunities, it's a good idea to get the facts on women's progress in the workplace, and in professional society. How does your experience compare to "the norm" as outlined by the data?

This week you'll use your journal to explore some of your own beliefs about women's progress and opportunity. How up-to-speed are you on what the data tells us about women in leadership?

Week 2: What you need to know about unconscious bias and discrimination

Ready for Lesson 2 on The Guide to Authentic Feminine Leadership? This lesson on Unconscious Bias really isn't the downer you might be worried about. Some fascinating research is empowering us to think of sexism, racism and lots of other prejudices as physiological and psychological blindspots we all have. They're "caused" by the natural functions of the brain and we have more choice in whether we act on them than we think we do. The best way not to become limited by our biases is to learn to see them operating in ourselves and in others.

This week you'll use your journal to explore some of your own biases and the ones you see--inside your brain and among family, friends and co-workers--that you've allowed to limit you. What mind trick will you discover to reframe your opportunity to succeed?

This week it's time to get to the heart of authentic feminine leadership. Women (and men) need to develop their own approach to leading and managing others. This goes well beyond being good at your job. It means including "leader" in your job description and your identity. It means being aware of what you do--and don't do--to get you and your team to the goal line. At the end of the day, leaders are good at their jobs, and they're good at inspiring, empowering and developing others to be good at their jobs, too.

This next chapter of the Guide to Authentic Feminine Leadership will take you into an exploration of the skills and abilities that make people good at leading and managing others. You'll get tips on emotionally intelligent leadership, conflict management, hiring, change and more!

Use your journal to identify the specific practices and tips you'll experiment with in the month ahead.

I hope last week's lesson on leading and managing others helped you understand your leadership strengths and identify how to grow yourself into a higher-level leader. Now it's time to take on that little voice undermining your ability to get there. We all have a negative voice inside us, the one that tells us we're 'not all that,' and 'on borrowed time until someone realizes we're not as good as we say we are.' Psychologists even have a name for it: The Imposter Syndrome

This next chapter of the Guide to Authentic Feminine Leadership will help you understand The Imposter Syndrome more deeply, and the different ways it erodes your personal power. We'll also give you tools to sidestep and retrain it so your power can flow through you more easily.

Use your journal to identify the specific practices and tips you'll experiment with in the month ahead.

So many tools available today are too theoretical and not easily transferable to real life situations, but InPower is different. Using these resources, it’s easier for me to communicate effectively, and I’m not as intimidated. I highly recommend InPower materials and techniques to anyone who wants to hone their communication and leadership skills.”
