Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing a very powerful woman, Nellie Akalp, Founder & CEO of CorpNet.com. She, along with her husband, has created two entrepreneurial ventures, the first of which she sold to Intuit 7 years ago. Through her entrepreneurial career, including with CorpNet.com (which helps small businesses file their corporate and LLC paperwork in 50 states), Nellie has helped form over 100,000 companies. In interviewing Nellie, I was really impressed with a few things, namely her relentlessly positive attitude, her devotion to achieving work-life balance to care for her new business and her large family, and her determination to succeed. She is driven by values and vision, and is a delight to learn from.

Nellie came to the U.S. at four years old and grew up in the family businesses, including a Swenson’s Ice Cream store franchise in Southern California. After law school, she and her husband started their first business, which they sold to Intuit in 2005. They loved the entrepreneurial life so much that after a couple of years chilling out they returned to found CorpNet.com. Today, they juggle the work-life responsibilities of raising four children (including a 20 month-old baby!) with their quickly growing business.
I really loved the way Nellie sees clearly how motherhood helps her run her business better at the same time as being an entrepreneur has made her a better mother. She applies her vision of success – perseverance, passion and a desire to be significant – to everything she does. In the interview she gives a very emotional shoutout to her husband, who is her partner in business and in life. Learn more about Nellie and follow her on LinkedIn, Twitter
