by | Apr 9, 2020 | Coaching Advice, InPower Women Blog, Working Moms

I recently had the chance to participate in an interview focused on Career Advice for COVID-19 with the working parent-friendly community, Kunik. They let me share some of the video responses below where I give advice on some specific questions posed, which I know that many in my audience pondering. Buried in the disaster-scenario related information is some sound career advice for anyone anytime.

How to conduct a job search during COVID-19

Bottom Line: Stay true to you goals. If you’re feeling insecure about your job but don’t want to ratchet up into job search mode, now is a good time to get serious about a passive job search.

Career Planning to Light Up Your Soul

Remote Leadership

Bottom Line: When leading teams remotely, put a protocol in place with them that involves morning/evening checkins. Also be extra clear with team members about expectations.

Tracking Performance Objectives While Working at Home

Bottom Line: Be extra clear with yourself, your boss and your team about the top priorities, and let the rest go.

Managing Burnout and Stress While Working at Home (and with kids)

Bottom Line: This is the same advice for non-COVID-19 situations: challenge the stories in your head that tell you you have to burn yourself out.

Career Planning & Family Planning

Bottom Line: You’ve got 3 phases in your career, and it’s important to establish some ‘career defining accomplishments’ by the end of your second phase. The timing of your family planning will be more specific to your circumstance, so focus on your family goals and work your career goals around them because they tend to be more flexible.

The core of my career advice for COVID-19 is the same as it is for any timeframe: know what you want go for it. Adapt to the reality in front of you, but go for it.
