INSIGHT: “That Guy”

by | Jan 18, 2013 | Coaching Advice, Insights & Inspiration

Worried you’re “that guy”? The one that people talk about behind your back?

The women and men who people talk about behind their backs are oblivious. Don’t be and you won’t be.

Most of us are self-conscious about the wrong stuff. Learn to look elsewhere. We worry about whether people think we were too outspoken in the meeting, too confident, not confident enough, too this, not that…

What do people really talk about behind your back? The stuff you don’t notice. And guess what? It’s the stuff you don’t notice that holds your biggest opportunity for success.

So start noticing.

How? So many ways… ask people what they believe you can improve on, and be honestly – in your heart – be open to their input… pay attention to people’s non-verbal reactions to you and ask your right brain what they mean… when you believe you know what they mean, ask them simply, “you look like you feel ____________. Tell me what you’re really thinking.” Be honestly open – in your heart –to what they say.

Or… find your own way. As long as you’re noticing non-defensively, it’s working.

Learn to ask powerfully for what you want, in ways appropriate to your situation. Special women-only webinar January 25 with special guest Henna Inam! Register here.
