INSPIRATION: Change vs. Stress

by | May 20, 2013 | Coaching Advice, Insights & Inspiration

I’m putting my house of 23 years up for sale this week. The family and I are packing up and right sizing for our last summer before we’re part time empty-nesters. (A close family, we anticipate holiday nests stuffed full for years to come.)

It feels like the end of the world in some ways as we garage-sale out two decades of flotsam and jetsom, but it’s also a cleansing purge of dusty remnants that don’t mean much anymore..

My home office full of light will soon become – something else – not sure what yet.

Our convenient commutes may become agonizingly inconvenient – or not.

Our tiny 1938 bathrooms have the promise of becoming soaking-tub-size.

The boys may move back into bunk beds in the new man cave basement they’ll call home when on vacation from school.

Or not.

We just don’t know yet.

While the signs of stress are there for us all, I’m conscious that we’re laughing at least as often, we’re pulling together to get it done in time for the open house and we’re dreaming together about the possibilities of new spaces.

Are we stressed? Yes. Are we stressed out? Nope. We choose excitement, possibilities and “new” whenever we get the chance. We choose change instead of letting stress hunt us down.

How about you? Are you choosing stress or change?

“If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” ~Mary Engelbreit
