INSPIRATION: Mentor

by | Jun 2, 2014 | Insights & Inspiration, Mentoring

We all know mentors can help us succeed, but did you know that in my hundreds of CEO interviews I’ve only run into ONE person who said she didn’t have any? Mentors don’t just help us, they (along with Sponsors) are often the crucial difference in our careers.

Hang on. Where do mentors learn to be great mentors? They learn by doing. Not only that but being a mentor is often a great growth experience for the mentor as well as the mentee.

Being a mentor helps you see yourself and your experiences through a new light. You get to feel wise. You get to help someone promising and bright, who appreciates you. You get to see the world through a different lens and learn things from their perspective you didn’t know. Mentoring is in-depth networking. Mentoring is fun.

Being a mentor is as important as having a mentor, and you don’t have to start when you’re old and on your way out. You can start right away. Peer mentoring is a great way to brush up on some of your management skills. Good managers know how to be good mentors when the situation requires it.
