What if I told you there was a secret to job satisfaction and if you only knew the secret, you’d achieve all the success you could imagine?
Of course it’s not that easy…. Or is it?
Choose to let go of the story you tell yourself that makes you feel unsatisfied.
April Fools! There IS a secret!
The secret to job satisfaction—or any kind of satisfaction—is to understand the story you’re telling yourself that makes you unsatisfied, and let it go.
Of course, sometimes this is hard because the I’m not satisfied story is a habit. It’s an ingrained belief you forgot you could change. You just accept it as truth. So the first thing you have to believe is that you have and the I’m not satisfied story.
Finish this sentence: I’m not satisfied with…..
- I’m not satisfied with my boss
- I’m not satisfied with my last promotion
- I’m not satisfied with my paycheck
- …….?
Now finish this sentence: But I am satisfied with….
- I’m satisfied with my coworkers
- I’m satisfied with my commute
- I’m satisfied with my most recent accomplishment
- …….?
Focus on what you’re satisfied with and work to put more in the I’m satisfied story and over time you’ll find your job satisfaction. Yes, you may end up having to change things—including your boss, company and title—to achieve it, but isn’t that the goal?
You don’t have to deny the negative, just stop giving it so much energy. Focus on the positive. Find ways to do more of what works and feel the happiness and satisfaction that comes along with it. Job satisfaction—and satisfaction with everything else—follows quickly.
